WGSS 29905 - Screen Bodies: Gender & Race in FilmCourse Credit: 1 SCREEN BODIES: GENDER AND RACE IN FILM: This course critiques the cinematic body image and its representation, focusing on gender, race, sexuality, and disability in films and popular culture. We ask how films around the world, popular culture, and social media (re)produce ideologies of “appropriate” and “desirable” bodies by disciplining our desire. We examine how certain bodies have been erased, distorted, and became hyper-visible and invisible with a feminist lens. Students will learn the issues in feminist film theory to analyze how film, pop culture, and social media represent gender, race, sexuality, and disability and will be able to critique and evaluate the representation.
