PHIL 22000 - Logic & Philosophy

LOGIC AND PHILOSOPHY: This course is a gentle introduction to some of the methods used to evaluate our deductive reasoning and arguments. The students will develop basic facility with formal logic including sentential and predicate logic. We will also reflect on various philosophical issues arising naturally from our study. Such issues may include puzzles about sets, the justification of modus ponens, the logic of the Aristotelian categorical, conditional statements, induction, contradiction, the nature of truth, and the normativity of logic.
