What is a Black performance aesthetic? How has this changed and developed over time? In what ways have conversations about gender and sexuality influenced the Black American theatre? This course is a survey of Black American theatre and performance history, spanning from the early days of minstrelsy to contemporary Broadway. Students will explore theories of performance and playwriting, Afrocentrism, and intersectionality in order to create their own piece of art. [AH, PPRE]
