HIST 20211 - Workshop: Archival Research

Course Credit: 0.25
WORKSHOP: ARCHIVAL RESEARCH For historians, nothing is more important than a primary source, one written or produced by historical actors immediately involved in an event or social phenomenon. How, though, do they find these sources? This course provides an introduction to conducting research in archival collections. Students will learn about archival theory and research methodologies and will gain first-hand experience working with archival material. As a final project, students will “apply” for a mock grant to conduct archival research in a library or institutional repository of their choice. This class is open to students of all majors, including any with an interest in research in the humanities, museum studies, or interdisciplinary inquiry involving historical sources.
