IRANIAN HISTORY & CINEMA This course studies the development of Iranian cinema in political and social context. Topics include pre- and post-Revolution changes in society and cinema production, censorship, gender roles, religious institutions, social commentary, metaphor and symbolic language, and relations to Persian literature and cultural history. Regular film viewings are required and will be in Persian with English subtitles. Prerequisite(s): One course in History or permission of instructor. [HSS]
