FIELD EXPERIENCE PRACTICUM This course will explore the educational experiences of Black children from enslavement to contemporary American society. Some of the major themes covered in this course will include structural issues within American education systems, student tracking, the school-to-prison pipeline, the inaccuracies of the “achievement gap,” the receivement gap, and educational debt. The readings will explore Supreme Court cases that are symbolic markers of education today, as well as the significant relationship between housing and opportunity. Collectively, the materials for this course will prepare future educators to work with diverse students, and equitably serve minority communities.
