COMM 35200 - Rhetorical Criticism

RHETORICAL CRITICISM.  This course examines the nature and methodogical approaches of rhetorical criticism, with the goal of teaching students how to perform and write rhetorical analyses of their own and how to critique the work of others.  Topics include narrative criticism, Burkean criticism, generic criticism, cultural (metaphor, value, myth, fantasy theme) analysis, rhetorical fieldwork, and ideological criticism (feminist, neocolonial, and critical race theory).  Prerequisite(s): COMM-11100, minimum grade C-; and at least one 200-level COMM course, minimum grade of C-; or permission of instructor (waived for ENVS majors who have completed a 200-level COMM course, minimum grade of C-). Annually.  Spring.
