ARCH 21903 - North American ArchaeologyCourse Credit: 1 NORTH AMERICAN ARCHAEOLOGY As a mid-level survey, this class will present an overview of key developments in North American archaeology. There will be two major components to this survey. The first part will deal with the emergence in the United States of archaeology as a field of study. We will consider the crucial methodological and theoretical developments, concentrating on the twentieth century. The second component will be a review of the prehistoric sequence as it has been pieced together over the past century. Geographically, we will concentrate on North America north of Mexico, but with occasional mention of pertinent developments in Mesoamerica. Prerequisite(s): Minimum of 2 courses in the major, or permission of the instructor. [AH, C, GE, HSS]
