METHODS AND MATERIALS FOR TEACHING SECONDARY CHORAL AND GENERAL MUSIC This course addresses the role of choral and general music instruction in secondary public school education, techniques of teaching choral music, and the study of music from various cultures appropriate to students in choral ensembles. Included is significant use of the National Standards for Arts Education and the Ohio Academic Content Standards in Music. Emphasis is on literature selection, specific teaching techniques in the implementation of curriculum, classroom procedures and materials, integration of technology, instructional strategies for special needs students, and the use of various assessment plans. Field experiences in middle and high school choral and general music settings are a major component of the course. Required of all B.M.E. majors. Prerequisite(s): MUSC-29000 and MUSC-34200 Spring.
