HIST 20107 - The Western: Mythmaking in Modern, AmericaCourse Credit: 1 (FILM) An introduction to the critical skills of the historian-including the analysis of primary sources, historiography, historical research and writing, and historical argument-through the study of a specific historical theme. A writing-intensive course, the class is taught as a seminar. This class is a historical investigation into the cultural phenomenon of The Western. Largely a twentieth-century creation, the western has, in crucial ways, come to stand for the larger American story. It has become, in many ways, the central American myth, our creation story. Prerequisite(s): 1 course in History or permission of the instructor. [HSS, W]
