COMM 33200 - Visual Communication and CultureCourse Credit: 1 (COMS, FILM) This course explores how we perceive and interpret the images and visual texts that we encounter. This course provides an in-depth study and discussion of selected topics in the history and theory of the media arts, visual communication, and culture. It introduces the history of the reproducible media arts and examines photography, cinema, television, video, and other visual and digital media. It focuses on how the forms and movements of media arts arise historically and how they relate to mass media. It also offers students opportunities to employ visual methods in analyzing a range of visual media. Prerequisite(s): COMM 23300 or COMM 23500 ; or permission of instructor
