AFST 20022 - Blackness and Sexuality in the DiasporaCourse Credit: 1 (WGSS) From the modern era to the contemporary moment, the intersection of race, gender, and class has been especially salient for people of African descent-for men as well as for women throughout the diaspora. In this interdisciplinary course, we will address this subject through an examination of the roles gender and sexuality play in the lives of people of African descent. Remaining attentive to the ways black people have claimed social and sexual agency in spite of systemic modes of inequality, we will engage with black feminist thought, queer theory, literature, film, as well as scholarship from sociology and history.
