RELS 26938 - Religion & Sexuality in AmericaCourse Credit: 1 (WGSS) This course examines the diverse attitudes, practices, and regulations of sexuality within specific religious communities and within American society. The first half of the course explores ideas about sexuality in Native American traditions, Judaism, Roman Catholicism, Protestant Christianity, and Islam. The second half of the course investigates the role of religion in shaping ideas about acceptable sexual citizens throughout American history. Topics to be covered include polygamy, monogamy, contraception, LGBTQ experiences, gender variance, the Kinsey Report, AIDS, and the separation of church and state. [R]
