RELS 26736 - Religion and Politics

Course Credit: 1
(WGSS)
Is the United States a secular country? What does the separation of church and state actually mean? This course examines how religion and politics have intersected throughout American history and in the present day, paying particular attention to intersections of gender and sexuality with politics and religion. We will analyze Supreme Court cases, Congressional hearings, presidents’ speeches, scholarly writings, and an array of media to investigate what role religion has played, and continues to play, in American laws and politics.
