POLITICAL RHETORIC This course examines the role that rhetoric plays in constructing and shaping our political realities. Topics include the nature of political rhetoric, rhetoric and issue construction, campaign discourse, political rhetoric and the news, domestic issue management, foreign policy rhetoric, issue advocacy and the disenfranchised, and the ethics of political discourse. The course aims to sharpen students’ critical skills in analyzing and evaluating political rhetoric, and to provide students with a greater awareness of both the artistry and potential manipulation of political discourse.
