WOMEN AND GENDER IN CHINA This seminar will provide an overview of contemporary China from a gender perspective. In discussing different conceptualizations of feminism, gendered effects of economic change, women’s relationship to politics, local and global processes of cultural reproduction which shape gender relations, marriage and sex across borders, changing masculinities, gendered identities, gender and public health, sexuality and intimate relations, gender and geopolitics, and the resurgence of gender inequality, the course will provide insight into the situation of women and the articulation of gender in transnational China, as well as extend our understanding of the dynamics of gender in the contemporary global world.
