ENGL 21009 - Post Colonial Literature & FilmCourse Credit: 1 (CMLT, FILM) POSTCOLONIAL LITERATURE AND FILM This course examines questions of identity (with particular emphasis on gender, race, and nation) in colonial and postcolonial novels, poems, and film. While acknowledging the problematic nature of the term postcolonial, we will examine paired colonial and postcolonial texts to understand the codes of race, gender, and nation constructed during the imperial era, and echoed, critiqued, and/or subverted in the postcolonial era. Our textual interpretations will be informed by postcolonial and gender theory. [AH, C]
