AFST 20009 - Africana Women’s Theatre / 21st Century

In this course students will read, watch, and analyze eleven performances by a dynamic set of artists from Africa and the African Diaspora. These artists represent various themes, including Black women’s empowering ideas about themselves and motherhood. Students will draw on gender and sexuality studies and performance theories in order to access how these theatre creations provide insights into Africana women’s knowledge production and activism.
